Terms & Conditions
Last Updated: 27 July 2026
These Terms and Conditions govern your access to and use of RentKnock, including the RentKnock mobile application, website, dashboards, services, notifications, APIs, payment verification features, and related tools.
RentKnock is operated by Dheeraj Patil, India. By creating an account, using the app, inviting tenants, managing a property, managing rent payments, enabling payment verification, or accessing any RentKnock service, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use RentKnock.
1. About RentKnock
RentKnock is a PG, hostel, and rental management application that helps property owners, managers, and tenants manage property setup, floors, rooms, beds, tenant records, rent invoices, tenant ledgers, UPI-based rent payment flows, owner payment review, smart payment verification using supported UPI app notifications, payment status updates, reminders, receipts, and rent tracking summaries..
RentKnock does not act as a bank, wallet, payment gateway, payment aggregator, lender, escrow provider, or financial institution for tenant rent payments. Tenant rent payments are made directly from the tenant’s UPI app or bank account to the owner’s UPI ID or bank-linked UPI account.
2. User Roles
Owner: An Owner creates or manages a PG/property on RentKnock and is responsible for adding correct property details, valid UPI payment details, inviting tenants, managing invoices and payments, confirming or rejecting payments where required, and ensuring lawful operation of their PG, hostel, or rental property.
Manager: A Manager is added by the Owner to help operate the property. A Manager may view dashboards, manage tenants, rooms and beds, send reminders, perform payment follow-ups, and view payment statuses based on permissions granted by the Owner. Managers cannot confirm or reject rent payments, claim property ownership, or access sensitive Owner settings.
Tenant: A Tenant may view assigned property details, view invoices, pay rent using UPI apps, mark payment as paid, view rent ledger, and receive payment status updates.
3. Account Registration, Login, and Account Deletion
RentKnock uses Google Sign-In and Firebase Authentication to create and authenticate user accounts. You agree to provide accurate account information, protect access to your Google account and device, and notify RentKnock if you believe your account has been accessed without authorization. You are responsible for activities performed through your account.
If you create a RentKnock account, you may request account deletion through the account-deletion option or link provided inside the application, or through our public account-deletion request page. Eligible personal data associated with the account will be deleted, except for limited operational, legal, accounting, security, fraud-prevention, payment-verification, invoice, audit, or dispute-related records that must be retained.

4. Property and Tenant Data
Owners and Managers may enter property name, address, floors, rooms, beds, tenant name, phone number, email, rent amount, deposit amount, move-in date, rent start date, invoice details, payment status, and tenancy notes. The Owner is responsible for ensuring that tenant information is collected and used lawfully.
RentKnock is a software tool. RentKnock does not verify landlord-tenant agreements, rent legality, occupancy rules, property licenses, local rental laws, or PG/hostel compliance requirements.
5. Tenant Rent Payments
RentKnock allows tenants to start a rent payment through UPI-supported apps. When a tenant taps “Pay Now”, RentKnock may open a UPI app with pre-filled details such as owner UPI ID, payable rent amount, payment note/code, and receiver name where available.
The actual payment is completed inside the tenant’s selected UPI app. The tenant must verify payment details and enter their UPI PIN inside the UPI app. RentKnock does not collect, store, request, or process UPI PIN, bank password, debit card PIN, net banking credentials, bank OTP, card CVV, or full bank account login details.
Tenants are responsible for checking the receiver UPI ID, receiver name where shown, payable amount, and payment note before approving payment in their UPI app. To support automatic verification, RentKnock may ask Tenants to pay the exact invoice amount shown in the app, including any small unique paise amount used only for payment matching.
RentKnock cannot guarantee that every UPI payment attempt will be approved by PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, BHIM, bank apps, NPCI, or any other UPI provider. UPI apps and banks may reject, block, delay, or fail payments due to their own rules, fraud checks, risk systems, network issues, account restrictions, or bank-side limitations.
6. Direct Payment to Owner
- Tenant rent payments are made directly to the Owner’s UPI ID.
- RentKnock does not hold tenant rent money.
- RentKnock does not settle rent payments.
- RentKnock does not provide escrow services.
- RentKnock does not reverse UPI payments.
Any dispute related to rent payment, refund, wrong transfer, duplicate transfer, partial payment, or excess payment must be resolved between the Tenant, Owner, UPI app, and bank.
7. Payment Verification
RentKnock may provide smart payment verification using Owner-side Android Notification Access. Payment verification may check supported UPI app package, payment amount, invoice payable amount, unique payable amount or code, duplicate transaction risk, active verification device, Notification Access status, supported UPI app notification availability, transaction reference where available, and notification timestamp.
RentKnock may automatically mark an invoice as verified when matching conditions are satisfied. If matching is uncertain, duplicated, expired, incomplete, or risky, RentKnock may mark the invoice as needing Owner review.
Payment verification is a convenience feature. It is not a legal guarantee of payment, not a bank statement, not a certified settlement record, and not a replacement for final bank reconciliation. The Owner remains responsible for verifying rent collection records where required.
Automatic verification may fail or require Owner review if the payment is late, partial, excess, duplicated, sent without using the RentKnock Pay Now flow, sent after the verification window, sent to the wrong UPI ID, missing from the Owner’s UPI app notifications, blocked by Android settings, or not matched confidently by RentKnock rules.
8. Notification Access
RentKnock may ask the Owner to enable Android Notification Access for optional smart rent payment verification. Before the Owner is directed to Android system settings, RentKnock presents an in-app disclosure and requests explicit affirmative consent. The feature operates only after the Owner manually enables Notification Access on the selected verification device.
If enabled, RentKnock may process limited notification information from supported UPI apps, including app package name, app name, notification timestamp, Android notification key/reference, payment amount detected from the notification, and possible transaction reference where available.
RentKnock uses this information to detect rent payment notifications, match them with rent invoices, prevent duplicate verification, and mark invoices as auto-verified or needing Owner review.
RentKnock does not use Notification Access to read personal chats, social media messages, OTPs, bank passwords, UPI PINs, photos, files, contacts, emails, or unrelated private content.
The Owner can disable Notification Access at any time from Android settings. If Notification Access is disabled, automatic rent payment verification may stop and payments may require manual Owner review.
9. Offline Retry for Verification Events
If a supported UPI payment received notification is received on the Owner’s selected verification device but internet is temporarily unavailable or RentKnock servers cannot be reached, RentKnock may temporarily store limited structured verification metadata in Android app-private storage and retry sending it when internet is available.
This retry mechanism is intended to reduce missed rent verification caused by temporary network failure. It does not guarantee verification if the Owner’s device did not receive the UPI notification, Notification Access was disabled, the UPI app did not show a notification, the event expired, or the payment details do not match RentKnock verification rules.
RentKnock does not store full raw notification title or full raw notification text in the local retry queue. Queued events may be cleared after sync, logout, disabling verification, device change, expiry, or repeated failed retry attempts.
10. Device Authentication for Verification
RentKnock may use a device authentication token for the Owner’s selected verification device. This device token is used only to securely send UPI notification verification events from the selected device to RentKnock servers. RentKnock stores only a secure hashed version of the device token on the backend. The raw token is saved on the user’s device and is not stored in plain text on RentKnock servers.
11. Subscription and Billing
RentKnock may offer paid software subscriptions for Owners or active properties. Before a subscription is purchased, the applicable price, billing frequency, trial period where offered, renewal terms, taxes, and included features will be displayed to the Owner.
Subscriptions purchased through the Google Play distributed application are processed through Google Play Billing unless another payment method is offered in accordance with applicable Google Play programs and policies. Owners can manage or cancel Google Play subscriptions through Google Play subscription settings.
A free trial may convert into a paid subscription unless cancelled before the trial ends, where this is clearly disclosed during subscription enrollment. Cancelling a subscription normally prevents future renewal but may not automatically provide a refund for the current billing period.
Tenant rent payments and Owner RentKnock subscription payments are separate. Tenant rent is transferred directly from the Tenant’s selected UPI or banking application to the Owner’s UPI ID. RentKnock does not receive, hold, route, settle, escrow, reverse, or refund tenant rent funds.
If a subscription expires, is cancelled, remains unpaid, or is otherwise restricted, RentKnock may limit access to paid features while allowing access to certain historical records where appropriate.
12. Refunds
Rent paid by a Tenant to an Owner is not collected by RentKnock and cannot be refunded by RentKnock. Any rent refund, wrong transfer, duplicate payment, partial payment, excess payment, or settlement dispute must be resolved between the Tenant, Owner, UPI app, and bank.
For Owner RentKnock subscription payments made through Google Play Billing, refund handling may depend on Google Play policies, applicable law, and the subscription plan terms.
13. User Responsibilities
- Do not use RentKnock for illegal activities.
- Do not add false property or tenant information.
- Do not misrepresent rent payment status.
- Do not attempt unauthorized access to another property.
- Do not tamper with invoices, payments, or verification records.
- Do not misuse Notification Access or device verification features.
- Do not attempt to bypass subscription or feature access rules.
14. Third-Party Services
RentKnock uses, interacts with, or depends on third-party services including Google Sign-In, Firebase Authentication, cloud hosting providers, UPI and banking applications, Google Play Billing, app stores, notification services, messaging services, and analytics or crash-reporting tools where enabled. PhonePe, Google Pay, Paytm, BHIM, banks, and other external services operate independently under their own terms and privacy policies. Their inclusion does not imply sponsorship, endorsement, or partnership with RentKnock.
15. App Distribution
RentKnock for Android is currently undergoing Google Play closed testing ahead of public release. The application may later be distributed through authorized app distribution channels.
16. Account Suspension or Termination
RentKnock may suspend, restrict, or terminate access if you violate these Terms, misuse payment or verification features, submit false information, attempt fraud, fail subscription payment, create a security risk, or if required for legal or compliance reasons.
17. Data Backup and Availability
RentKnock may store data on cloud servers. We try to keep services available, but do not guarantee uninterrupted access. Service may be affected by server downtime, internet issues, UPI or bank downtime, cloud provider outage, app store restrictions, Android background restrictions, maintenance, security incidents, or force majeure events.
18. Intellectual Property
RentKnock, including its name, logo, design, software, workflows, features, UI, content, and technology, belongs to RentKnock or its licensors. Users may not copy, resell, distribute, modify, reverse engineer, or misuse RentKnock software without written permission.
19. Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, RentKnock is not liable for failed UPI payments, bank or UPI app declines, wrong UPI transfers, disputes between Owners and Tenants, incorrect information entered by users, missed notifications, delayed verification, manual confirmation errors, subscription-provider issues, app-store restrictions, or indirect or consequential damages. Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability that cannot legally be excluded or limited under applicable law.
20. No Professional Advice
RentKnock does not provide legal, tax, accounting, banking, or financial advice. Reports, summaries, ledgers, or payment records generated by RentKnock are for convenience and operational use only.
21. Changes to Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make significant changes, we may notify users through the app, website, email, or other reasonable means. Continued use of RentKnock after changes means you accept the updated Terms.
22. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of India. Any disputes will be subject to the courts located in India unless applicable law requires otherwise.
